We’re not lion when we say Surfari Joe’s Indoor Water Park and Hotel is a seriously fun place to take the kids at any time of year. Apologies for the horrible gag – we were inspired by the punny name of this African-themed hotel and water park in Watervliet, Michigan. The indoor water park is somewhat small, and despite how appropriate it would seem given the name, it doesn’t have a surfing simulator (or any other premium water attractions). The features it does have, however, are likely enough to keep younger visitors very busy.

Staying at the attached hotel offers the most convenient access to the water park – which is particularly nice during the winter months when you don’t necessarily want to step outside. However, you don’t have to rent a room to get into the water park. Surfari Joe’s also sells day passes to non-guests.

The hotel has a variety of different rooms to offer, including ones with bunk beds for the kids. There are also themed suites with African artwork on display. Water park admission is not automatically included with your room – so make sure you get one of the appropriate packages.

The water park is about 18,000 square feet – small compared to some of the major indoor water parks in the country, but decent-sized when judged on its own merits. Some of the water attractions it has include:

  • Two Long Water Slides (they wind in and out of the building)
  • Lazy River
  • Toddler Pool
  • Spa Area
  • Restaurant and Bar Overlooking the Water Park

Like many other indoor water parks, Surfari Joe’s Indoor Water Park is primarily geared toward young kids. If you’re a parent, the enclosed indoor park is a great place to let the youngsters wear themselves out while you sit back and relax. You don’t even have to worry about keeping them covered in sunscreen.

If you’re looking for an indoor water park with more intense rides that teens and adults can enjoy, you might want to look elsewhere. This water park is just one of many great indoor water parks in the state of Michigan.
