Boyne Mountain Road
Boyne Falls, MI 49713
Boyne Mountain Resort is known for its great downhill skiing, but it also has some pretty nice surfing. How’s that? Because Avalanche Bay Indoor Waterpark features a surfing simulator, among many other attractions. This Swiss-themed indoor water park is not only the largest indoor water park in Michigan, but one of the largest in the whole country.
Staying at the attached resort is the most convenient way to access Avalanche Bay. However, it’s not mandatory. If you’d prefer to stay elsewhere while in Boyne Falls, you can purchase admission to the water park separately and enjoy splishing, splashing, and sliding for a full or half day.
The indoor water park is connected to Mountain Grand Lodge & Spa, which is the centerpiece of the different properties that make up Boyne Mountain Resort. The resort is modeled after the inns of Switzerland and Austria – a fact that will become obvious to anyone who approaches its charming exterior. Inside there are over 200 rooms and suites featuring luxury amenities like handmade furniture, plasma TVs, fireplaces, and hot tubs. Yes, this place is upscale.
In addition to Avalanche Bay, the resort features a full day spa offering massages, salon services, and general relaxation. There’s also a pub onsite.
Rides and Slides
At 88,000 square feet, Avalance Bay Indoor Waterpark is huge. But it’s not all about the square footage. Avalanche Bay also has many of the premium features that distinguish the truly elite indoor water parks, all wrapped up in a unique “Swiss ski village” presentation. Here’s a list of the major attractions:
- Rip Zone Surfing Simulator
- Funnel Slide
- Multiple Water Slides (they twist in and out of the building)
- Children’s Fort with Giant Tipping Bucket
- Wet Climbing Wall (water falls on you as you attempt to climb)
- Lazy River
- Mat Racing
- Activity Pool/Water Agility Course
- Hot Tub Area
Simply put, Avalanche Bay Indoor Waterpark belongs on any list of the best indoor water parks in the country. If there’s any downside, it’s that you might not be able to peal yourself away to enjoy the skiing and other activities the area has to offer.
The ski slopes are within walking distance of Avalanche Bay and Mountain Grand Lodge. However, the resort area features plenty of other activities, such as golfing, fine dining, festivals, and nightlife. Combine all that with the indoor water park and other resort amenities, and it’s highly doubtful that you’ll ever be bored during your stay.
