1305 Kalahari Drive
Wisconsin Dells, WI 53965
Some indoor water parks are humongous. Others win people over with style. Few, however, combine both qualities as well as the indoor water park at Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells. Not only is the water park an astounding 125,000 square feet, but it has an African theme that seems wildly original compared to the slew of Caribbean themed water parks out there.
This Kalahari resort is one of two in the country (a third was planned for Fredericksburg, Virginia, but seems to have fallen through). By most commonsense measures, the Sandusky, Ohio location is the largest indoor water park in the country. But no matter which Kalahari you visit, you can be sure that you’re experiencing one of the greatest indoor water parks in the world.
The Kalahari indoor water park is open to the general public as well as resort guests. However, staying at the resort does offer some distinct advantages (besides just being closer to the water park).
With 750 rooms, the hotel at the Kalahari is as impressively sized as the water park. One nice thing about the Kalahari is that the indoor water park’s theme extends to the hotel accommodations. Rooms at the Kalahari not only have African names – the Hut Room and African Queen Suite, to name two examples – but feature African themed furniture and decorations. In common areas like hallways and lobbies, you’ll also find authentic African artwork on display.
This is a true resort with all sorts of things to do onsite. Besides the water park, the most impressive attraction at the Kalahari is the indoor theme park, which is over 100,000 square feet and features a Ferris wheel. Between this and the water park, you might just forget what the weather is like outside (definitely a good thing in February in Wisconsin).
Here’s a quick sampling of the other features at the Kalahari Resort:
- Full Day Spa
- Fitness Center
- Potery Pizzazz Activity for Kids
- Lots of Different Dining Options
Rides and Slides
Name a feature, and the Kalahari indoor water park has it. This includes state of the art attractions like surfing simulators (the Kalahari has two) and “water coasters” (cross between a roller coaster and water slide). Unlike other indoor water parks that have a single centerpiece, the Kalahari really has it all, and people are likely to come away with different opinions on what ride is the best. Here are some of the contenders:
- FlowRider Surfing Simulator
- Massive Wave Pool
- Family Raft Ride
- Master Blaster Water Coaster
- Lazy River
- Funnel Slide
- Numerous Play Areas for Younger Kids
- Private Cabanas (with big screen TVs)
You can purchase combo passes for both the water park and indoor theme park, and save money over buying them separately. The Kalahari also offers specials and group deals on a regular basis, so it pays to do some research before booking your stay.
If you can peel yourself away from the Kalahari, Wisconsin Dells is full of tourist attractions, shops, and restaurants. For more info, check out our map of Wisconsin Dells attractions.
