1700 American Blvd E
Bloomington, MN 55425
The Water Park of America in Bloomington, Minnesota is the tallest indoor water park in the country, and undoubtedly one of the greatest. What makes it even sweeter is that it’s less than a mile away from the Mall of America, the largest shopping mall in the country. If visiting all the “biggest” places is on your bucket list, here’s a twofer for you.
Overall, this has to be one of the best ways to spend a cold weekend in January or February if you live anywhere near the Twin Cities metro area. Or if you live elsewhere, for that matter. The Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport is close by, so you can easily fly in and enjoy a few days of swimming and shopping. If you want even more, you can venture into the Twin Cities for dining, sports, and music.
The hotel attached to the Water Park of America is called the Radisson Bloomington Hotel by Mall of America. Booking a room there guarantees you access to the indoor water park (though you may have to pay extra for water park passes if you don’t get a package that includes them). In fact, guests at the Radisson get exclusive access to the water park between 9 and 11 am, giving you time to enjoy the attractions before the crowd gets bigger.
You can choose from different packages that include some combination of room, water park passes, arcade tokens, and even entry to attractions at the Mall of America like Nickelodeon Universe. Getting one of these deals is an economical option for families, as they save you money over buying everything separately.
Rides and Slides
The Water Park of America injects some Minnesota flavor into its rides by naming them after noteworthy places from around the state. For example, there’s the St. Croix River, an inner tube ride that takes you on a tour of the park. Here are some of the other noteworthy features:
- Family Raft Ride (longest indoor raft ride in the country)
- Body Slide
- Wave Pool
- Surfing Simulator
- Large Kiddie Pool
There’s a whole host of things to do at the Mall of America (you can take the free shuttle there), not to mention the Twin Cities and their suburbs. Here are just a few places that are short drive away:
- Minnesota Zoo
- Valley Fair Amusement Park
- Chanhassen Dinner Theater
- Minnesota Children’s Museum
- Sporting Events at the Target Center and Target Field
