It’s no wonder that the current trend toward indoor water parks got started in Wisconsin Dells – not only because this tourist mecca excels at water parks, but because Wisconsin winters are so freaking cold. There are few things that will make you long for a tropical getaway more than February in the Upper Midwest.
But escaping the cold isn’t the only reason people visit Wisconsin Dells indoor water parks. At all times of year, they provide shelter from the sun and insurance against bad weather – but most of all, they’re just fun.
Here are the biggest and best indoor water parks in Wisconsin Dells, in order of size. All of these water parks are connected to resorts, but in most cases, you can also purchase admission separately without renting a room.
This sprawling resort actually features four indoor water parks totaling 250,000 square feet. Needless to say, there are too many water attractions to list here – especially if you include the large outdoor water park as well. Admission is limited to resort guests.
This African-themed resort has a 125,000 square foot indoor water park that’s open to both guests and the general public. Not only is it huge, but it features pretty much all of the hottest indoor water park attractions, including a surfing simulator and water coaster.
Lost Rios Indoor Waterpark
At 80,000 square feet, the indoor water park at Chula Vista doesn’t quite measure up to the one at the Kalahari. However, it does have many of the same sort of premium attractions. During the summer, there’s also a large outdoor water park to add to the fun.
Great Wolf Lodge
The Great Wolf Lodge chain is in many parts of the country. Like others in the franchise, the one in Wisconsin Dells offers a lot of attractions for kids – including a large indoor water park with northwoods-themed slides and rides. Admission is limited to resort guests only.
Medusa’s Indoor Water Park
The Mt. Olympus resort is known more for its large outdoor water and theme parks. However, the 55,000 square foot indoor water park is not too shabby. For a winter vacation that looks an awful lot like a summer vacation, you can also take the family to the large indoor theme park at Mt. Olympus.
Polynesian Water Park Resort
The indoor water park at this resort is a little on the small side. Still, a great place to stay if you’re visiting the Dells with young kids. During the summer, the large outdoor water park makes this more of a vacation destination than a mere hotel.
Blizzard Bay Indoor Waterpark
The small indoor water park at Wintergreen Resort is mostly just for kids. If for no other reason, it’s worth mentioning here because of its unique winter theme, which will have your kids frolicking like penguins on attractions that look like they’re made of ice and snow (don’t worry – the water is still warm).
Other Wisconsin Dells Hotels with Indoor Water Parks
In addition, Wisconsin Dells has a lot of hotels with smaller indoor water parks to keep the kiddies active and amused while you’re in town. These hotels probably aren’t worth visiting for the indoor water parks alone, but they’re great for squeezing even more fun into your stay.
